Former South African captain and star batsman AB de Villiers ignored Virat Kohli and the No.1 ranked batsman Babar Azam as he predicted Shubman Gill to be the leading run-scorer in the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
The World Cup 2023 is going to start from 5 October in India. The hosts are going to start their campaign on the 8th of October when they will play against Australia at Chennai. Before this, the only batter who is in the eyes of everyone is Shubman Gill. He is been in tremendous form throughout the year.
Meanwhile, Villiers picked Shubman Gill as the leading run-scorer for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. He said that being an opening batter, Gill has a significant chance to the batting charts.

AB de Villiers on his YouTube video said:
“Shubman Gill will be the highest run-scorer in the World Cup. He is in great form. I was always going to go with an opening batter—at the very worst, a No. 3 batter.”
“I think Shubman is in such form that it would be silly of me to overlook him. He is a great player and has a fantastic technique. He is playing at home in India, yes, there will be pressure but he is my pick”, he added.
Shubman Gill’s simple batting technique is a thing that is praised by every cricketer. De Villers mentioned that and said that Gill is developing into one of the best batters of the current generation.
“His style and technique are quite simple and basic, as you would generally say for some of the best players of the world. You get some exceptions, like Steve Smith. Shubman Gill is much more traditional, very straightforward technique, and doesn’t try a lot of different things. He can change the gears and put a lot of pressure on the bowlers.”
“He has got this incredible ability of picking up the length very quickly; you see that with some of the best players in the world. Shubman is very quickly becoming one of those, one of the best players in all the formats. Very exciting young talent. He is still young but looks like an experienced campaigner already”, he added.
Shubman continued his form in the ongoing ODI series against Australia where he scored a brilliant half-century in the first ODI and a century in the second.
