AUS vs PAK: David Warner Opens Up On His Groin Issue After Winning PoTM vs Pakistan

David Warner

The veteran Australia National Cricket Team opening batsman David Warner was awarded Player of the Match for his stupendous century against Babar Azam-led Pakistan National Cricket Team in the 18th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Friday, October 20.

David Warner showcased sheer class in the match against the Men In Green and played an attacking brand of cricket on the surface that assisted the batters. He got an early reprieve as he was dropped by Usama Mir in the 5th over of the match when he was batting at a score of 10.

After getting a reprieve, Warner looked even more dominant and he started annihilating the Pakistan bowlers. He smashed an 85-ball ton and finished his innings at 163 runs off 124 balls, including 14 fours and 9 sixes. He was also involved in a massive 259-run partnership in 203 balls with Mitchell Marsh.

After playing a stellar knock Warner was not seen on the field and speaking during the post-match presentation ceremony, David Warner said that his groin was a bit sore. He also spoke about his partnership with Mitchell Marsh. David Warner stated:

“It (groin) is a little bit sore, all cramps at the moment, that’s all it is.

“It (partnership with Marsh) was awesome, once we got the pace of the wicket, we were going to try and target their bowlers.”

For us to go out there and put a performance like that is very pleasing – David Warner

Warner added that he was pleased to put on a remarkable performance alongside Marsh. He said:

“For us to go out there and put a performance like that is very pleasing. Committing and backing my skills, I had a good hit yesterday, it was ticking along, I was just one bit of luck away and it helps when you’re hitting the ball out of the middle.”

David Warner revealed that he and Marsh planned to bat at least till 35 overs before going berserk, which eventually didn’t happen. He said:

“Playing on a ground like this as well, you got to take those chances. Just to get out there and build a partnership with Mitch today. We spoke about trying to bat till 35 overs at least and then probably score heavily in the back end.”

David Warner signed off by talking about his brilliant running between the wickets. He elaborated:

“From our perspective, there’s a little bit of tinkering there we got to work on, we lost 5 or 6 wickets in the last 10. Every run is valuable, part of my DNA is to run hard between wickets, I have always done that and I’ll always continue to keep doing that as long as I keep playing.”
