IND vs NZ was on the cards at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala on Sunday (22nd October). Match 21 of the ICC World Cup 2023 saw India ending the Kiwi jinx as they thumped New Zealand by 4 wickets.
Asked to bat first, New Zealand were off worst possible start as they lost Devon Conway for a nine-ball duck. After that, Will Young (17) tried to play some shots but couldn’t get going as he too was back early. But after that, Rachin Ravindra (75) and Daryl Mitchell (130) then took the onus to themselves.
They batted magnificently well and put Indian bowlers under tremendous pressure. They added 159 runs partnership and brought New Zealand back into the game. But Men in Blue came back strongly as they chipped in with wickets at regular intervals and pulled things incredibly well.
Mohammed Shami was the architect behind that as he picked a five-wicket haul. His staggering spell along with valiant contributions from Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammed Siraj helped India bundle out New Zealand for 273 runs.
India were off to a flying start, thanks to skipper Rohit Sharma (46). The Indian captain yet again took the attack to the bowlers and put them under pressure. Shubman Gill (26) supported him well as they added 71 runs for the opening partnership. The duo, however, perished in quick time after that before Virat Kohli took center stage.
Virat Kohli batted magnificently yet again as he took off from where he left in Pune. The batter slammed swashbuckling 95 runs and took his team home. He was supported well by Shreyas Iyer (33), KL Rahul (27) and Ravindra Jadeja (39*).
The fifty-plus partnership between Kohli and Jadeja in the end made sure that India won the game. They thumped New Zealand by 4 wickets and this was the first time when they thumped the Black Caps in the ICC tournament in 20 years.

India after their fifth consecutive win in the ICC World Cup following IND vs NZ are on the top of the table. New Zealand were displaced from the 1st position and are second on the table.
