The Scott Edwards-led Netherlands National Cricket Team and Shakib Al Hasan-led Bangladesh National Cricket Team locked horns in the 28th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Saturday, October 28.
The Netherlands won the toss and opted to bat first in the match against Bangladesh. They made two changes to their playing XI as Shariz Ahmad and Wesley Barresi replaced Roelof Van der Merwe and Teja Nidamanuru. The Bangla Tigers also made two changes to their playing XI as Mahedi Hasan and Taskin Ahmed replaced Nasum Ahmed and Hasan Mahmud.
Batting first, openers Max O’Dowd and Vikramjit Singh got out for low scores inside 3 overs. However, Wesley Barresi (41) and Colin Ackermann (15) steadied the ship with their 59-run partnership in 68 balls.
After the duo got dismissed, captain Scott Edwards took the responsibility and played a wonderful knock. He scored 68 runs off 89 balls, with 6 fours.
Also, Sybrand Engelbrecht (35), Logan van Beek (23), and Bas de Leede (17) batted well and contributed important runs to help the Netherlands reach 229 runs in 50 overs.
For Bangladesh, Shoriful Islam, Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, and Mahedi Hasan picked two wickets each while Shakib Al Hasan got one wicket.
Chasing a small total in the match, the Bangladesh batters were off to an awful start as Litton Das, Tanzid Hasan, and Najmul Hossain Shanto once again failed to perform and the onus was once again veterans Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim to bail the side out of trouble.
However, both Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur were unable to do the job for Bangladesh this time around and they were back in the dugout for low scores, leaving the side in a horrible position. Mehidy Hasan Miraz (35) and Mahmudullah (20) also tried to fight but they were unable to survive in the middle of very long.
In the end, tailenders Mustafizur Rahman and Taskin Ahmed built a 29-run partnership to take the game deep, but Bangladesh were eventually bundled out for 142 in the 43rd over. The Netherlands crushed the Bangla Tigers by a massive margin of 87 runs to register yet another historic World Cup win.

What an outstanding game of cricket in Dharamsala between #AusvNZ. It clearly demonstrated the aggression, attitude, approach and skills required in today’s 50-over cricket. This #CWC23 is confirming teams like Aus, NZ, SA and Ind are fast pulling away from the rest in this…

Have to admire this Netherlands team. Commitment to the cause absolutely superb. Can’t help feel happy for them. It’s such a special unit #NEDvBAN

Appreciation post for Scott Edwards and Netherlands Cricket. I wish we had more leaders like him who do much with little. No global superstars, but they work smart and hard. These are no longer upsets. They are deserved victories.

So bad have Bangladesh been with the bat that they have crossed 250 only once in this tournament in 6 games. Versus India at Pune, where the par score was probably 325.

Bangladesh need to ask themselves some tough questions. As they have needed to for a few years now. So, Bangladesh fans, post the batch of Shakib, Mushfiq and Tamim, how many genuine world class players have emerged, in your opinion?
