The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah revealed about development programmes in Northeast states and Jammu & Kashmir. He said that they will be opening academies in those states soon.
India boasts a great popularity of cricket in almost every state of the nation. Players from each state are putting in hard yards and are giving their everything to make it into the big stages in IPL as well as international cricket.
However, there have been a few states where the cricketing structure hasn’t been great and the boards too haven’t taken much interest. This has been one of the main reasons why players from these states don’t go far long and have be take a step back.
Among those Northeast states and Jammu & Kashmir are the two. Some players from states have made it to a big level, potentially showing the kind of talent players of those states possess. However, BCCI has now taken steps to improve cricket in those states.
Jay Shah revealed that academies in the Northeast states will be opened in August 2024 and they have started the work in Jammu & Kashmir. He added that they also be inaugurating a new NCA in Bengaluru. Speaking on the sidelines of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) auction, he explained:
“The academies in the Northeast States will be ready soon, probably by August. Midway through August, we’ll see academies opening up in the Northeast and the new NCA in Bengaluru. And the work on Jammu & Kashmir academy has started.”
Jay Shah also stated that NCA in Bengaluru will have a high-quality center. “It will be as good as Cricket Australia’s High Performance Centre in Brisbane,” he stated, as quoted by Cricbuzz.

Jay Shah also opened up about the future of Rahul Dravid-led coaching staff. He admitted that they have given them an extension but are yet to sign the contract. He added that they would decide everything once the team returns from South Africa. He added:
“We did not get time at all, they finished (with the World Cup), I had a meeting with them and we agreed mutually that they will continue. We will sit down and decide once they return from South Africa. We have given the extension but we are yet to finalise the contract.”
Rahul Dravid’s contract as the head coach ended after the ICC World Cup 2023. However, he will be coaching the team in the upcoming South Africa tour, where India will play 3 T20Is, 3 ODIs and 2 Tests.
