The Eliminator of the Women’s Premier League 2024 (WPL 2024) saw the clash between Mumbai Indians Women (MI-W) and the Royal Challengers Bangalore Women (RCB-W) on Friday, March 15, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

Royal Challengers Bangalore Women won the toss and chose to bat first in the match. They fielded an unchanged playing XI for the crucial game, unlike Mumbai Indians Women who made a sole change by bringing in Yastika Bhatia for Priyanka Bala.

The game between the teams went to the last over and the Royal Challengers Bangalore Women won the thriller by 5 runs. They will now take on the Meg Lanning-led Delhi Capitals Women (DC-W) in the final of the WPL 2024 on March 17 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

Batting first, Smriti Mandhana and Sophie Devine tried to play an attacking brand of cricket and together they smashed a good number of boundaries. However, suddenly RCB-W faced a batting collapse and went from 20/0 to 23/3.

Then, the responsibility once again fell on Ellyse Perry and she joined forces with Richa Ghosh to bail the team out of trouble. The duo together added 26 runs in 33 balls. However, Hayley Matthews dismissed the wicketkeeper-batter.

Despite losing her partner, Ellyse Perry stood strong at one end and she added 35 and 42 runs with Sophie Molineux and Georgia Wareham. The partnerships were crucial for RCB-W as they helped the side reach a respectable total.

The Aussie great Perry smashed 66 runs off 50 balls, with 8 fours and 1 six before walking back to the hut. In the end, RCB-W posted 135/6 on the board. For Mumbai Indians, Saika Ishaque, Nat Sciver-Brunt, and Hayley Matthews picked up two wickets each.

Chasing the target, opening batters Yastika Bhatia (19) and Hayley Matthews (15) batted decently and provided Mumbai Indians Women with a good start. However, they weren’t able to play big innings in a small run-chase.

Then came the turn of senior stars Nat Sciver-Brunt and Harmanpreet Kaur. The duo played very well and put RCB-W under tremendous pressure. They batted well and took MI-W close to the win. However, both the players got out at crucial junctures of the match.

Nat Sciver-Brunt was back in the hut after scoring 23 runs off 17 balls while Harmanpreet Kaur scored 33 runs off 30 balls before getting dismissed while attempting a big shot. In the final over, Mumbai Indians Women (MI-W) needed 12 runs to win.

Amelia Kerr was there in the middle but she wasn’t able to take her team past the finish line. She finished her innings with 27 runs off 25 balls, with 2 fours. Also, Mumbai Indians Women were restricted to 130/6. For Royal Challengers Bangalore Women, Shreyanka Patil picked up two wickets each while Asha Sobhana, Georgia Wareham, Sophie Molineux and Ellyse Perry picked up one wicket each.
