In what has been the latest development as per the reports in India today, it is learned that Gautam Gambhir is all set to become the head coach of Team India. The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) mentor will replace Rahul Dravid in the role after the T20 World Cup 2024.
Gautam Gambhir reportedly is keen to take up the responsibility of Team India despite his commitments with Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL. If he takes up the role at the Indian team then he will have to leave the franchise, whom he guided to 3rd title in IPL 2024.
The reports claimed that there was no formal approach made by BCCI to Gautam Gambhir for the head coach role. However, informal conversations have happened between the two parties. The rumors of him taking up the role grew stronger after the first half of the IPL 2024.
It is learned that the Board of Control for Cricket in India is keen to appoint Gautam Gambhir as head coach despite the former Indian cricketer having no coaching experience at the highest level. The governing body seemed to be impressed with his mentorship in the IPL.
Gautam Gambhir first joined Lucknow Super Giants as a mentor for two seasons in the IPL. The former India cricket guided the team to two playoffs in the league and then joined Kolkata Knight Riders ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 as a mentor.
Gautam Gambhir made an immediate impact as under his mentorship Kolkata Knight Riders won the title. This seemed to have impressed BCCI and they are convinced the former batter of India is the right man to take the team forward from Rahul Dravid.
Gautam Gambhir was recently also spotted having a conversation with BCCI secretary Jay Shah. It is learned that the duo had an informal conversation related to the same after the IPL Final, which was also telecasted live on the TV.

A top franchise owner, who is close to Gautam Gambhir, confirmed to Cricbuzz that the KKR mentor has accepted to take the role of head coach of team India, and the official announcement will be made soon related to the same.
