Watch: Rahul Tewatia narrowly avoids serious injury after tripping over his own feet

Rahul Tewatia

Rahul Tewatia was very fortunate to avoid a serious injury after falling awkwardly on the field while trying to catch the ball during the ongoing game between Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat Titans at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.

The incident took place in the 17th over of the innings when he was fielding at long-on. Mohit Sharma was bowling to Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson. On the final ball of the over, the right-handed batsman lofted the low full-toss towards long on and Rahul Tewatia started running to his left to catch the ball.

However, he ended up tripping himself on his own feet and fell awkwardly. He was very fortunate that the ball did not land on his face or any other part of the body. Due to the fall, he also missed the chance to take the catch and send back the Royals captain.

Talking about the game, RR recovered from a poor start to post a competitive total of 196 for 3 in the allotted 20 overs. The Royals lost both of their openers - Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler - inside the powerplay before Samson and Riyan Parag shared a 130-run stand for the third wicket.

Parag top-scored for the home side, scoring 76 while Samson remained unbeaten on 68. For GT, Rashid Khan was the pick of the bowlers. The star spinner conceded only 18 runs in his four overs and picked up the crucial wicket of Buttler.

"First few games I was struggling with line and length. Have been working on hitting the right area consistently. Hard after coming back from back surgery. I wasn't feeling right in the first few games. Didn't have the satisfaction. Felt like I was 90-94 percent today. Look forward to making it 100 percent. The more you bowl into the wicket, the harder it is for batter. Will look to have the positive mindset in the chase," said Rashid after the innings.
